150 days into the Suvendu Adhikari-led government in West Bengal, the real question isn’t whether power changed hands — but whether governance really changed.

The BJP promised ‘poriborton’; and they’re ticking boxes: Annapurna Yojana for 1.5 crore women, jobs promised for 1 lakh, UCC in 6 months. But can a new government fix what three decades of mismanagement left behind? Welfare payments are delayed, verification is messy, and young people still leave for jobs. The government is loud on symbolism; temple visits, UCC promises; but quiet on job creation. Bengal’s economy won’t turn around with speeches. It needs factories, not just funds. The real test? Not bypolls on Oct 6; but whether a student in Siliguri or a laborer in Howrah can see a future here, next year.
