She vanished on July 7, reportedly aided by two Russian embassy officials who arranged a car to take her to the India-Nepal border. From there, she flew to Russia via Sharjah. Delhi Police have now formally requested her extradition through the Ministry of External Affairs. The case, which began with an FIR in Defence Colony, is still pending in Saket District Court. What makes this unusual is the involvement of embassy personnel; and the fact that international law enforcement is now searching for her globally. The child’s father, Saikat Basu, married Viktoriia in 2017; their son was born in 2020. The custody battle turned bitter after reconciliation attempts failed. Viktoriia had sought full custody in 2023 but was granted only 3 days/week with the child. Her abrupt exit triggered a diplomatic ripple; with the Russian embassy stating it’s ‘in close contact’ with India, while denying any wrongdoing. But Delhi Police aren’t backing down. This isn’t just custody drama; it’s a cross-border legal chase with embassy fingerprints.
