The Madras High Court just ruled: even transit goods aren’t exempt from India’s security rules. The India-Nepal transit treaty doesn’t trump the Customs Act; especially when national security is involved. This isn’t about seeds. It’s about how India draws its economic and political lines. If goods with Pakistani origin tags pass through Indian ports, they’re treated as imports; period. No loopholes. No exceptions. Even if they’re just passing through. The court didn’t dive into where the seeds really came from; that’s a job for customs officers, not judges. Smart move. Because this case isn’t just legal precedent; it’s a warning to anyone trying to test India’s trade boundaries, even indirectly. Transit doesn’t mean free pass. Especially not now.
