In Andhra Pradesh, it almost did; until things got messy. The state’s 2024 Sports Policy waived exams for 400 teaching posts under sports quota. Teachers of Math, Science, even English; no written test needed if you had the right sports medal. But 70+ court cases later, the government backtracked. Why? Because teaching isn’t like admin work; you can’t teach fractions with a volleyball trophy. While athletes deserve recognition, subject mastery matters more. And let’s be honest; some certificates weren’t even real. Now the state’s reinstating exams, but the bigger question remains: how do we support athletes without compromising education? It’s not about shutting doors; it’s about keeping them fair.
