This is a quiet revolution in how states are investing in grassroots talent. With 6 teams, a professional structure, and Sspark Sports running operations, the Chhattisgarh Hockey League (CHL) is designed to give local players a real shot at the big leagues. Think of it as IPL, but for hockey; built from the ground up in Raipur. From player ID drives to women’s exhibition matches, this isn’t just about trophies. It’s about creating pathways for kids who dream of playing for India. And with Hockey India backing it, this could become the blueprint for other states. The real story? States aren’t waiting for the centre anymore. They’re building their own ecosystems; and hockey might just be the first sport to see a true state-led resurgence. Who knows? The next Indian hockey captain might be playing in CHL right now.
