The UN raised concerns over mass detentions during a demonstration led by the Cockroach Janta Party (yes, really), demanding the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner over alleged voter roll glitches. India didn’t just shrug it off; it shot back, calling the UN’s remarks "interference" and reminding the world that its Constitution protects peaceful protest, backed by courts and media. What’s interesting? India urged the UN to apply the same lens to protests everywhere; not just here. Meanwhile, Delhi Police blocked the march, citing safety, traffic, and short notice. The Supreme Court even stepped in, balancing protest rights with public services. This isn’t just about a protest; it’s about who gets to define ‘peaceful assembly’ on a global stage. And India’s making it clear: it’s not open for interpretation.
