EAM Jaishankar just called the UN "largely irrelevant" — and he’s not sugarcoating it.

At a high-profile conclave in Delhi, he pointed out what many already feel: on big crises; Ukraine, Gulf tensions, Africa’s conflicts, even COVID; the UN doesn’t lead. It watches. Why? Gridlock in the Security Council. Built for 51 countries, now it serves 193; but still runs like a 1945 boardroom. And here’s the twist: Some nations block reform while claiming to protect Africa’s interests. But Africa? Has already stated its position; clearly. India isn’t quitting the UN. It’s demanding reform. Joining G4 and L69, pushing hard for an expanded, more representative Security Council. The message: We need the UN; but not like this. Fix it, don’t bypass it. Because if the world’s biggest club stays stuck in the past, no one wins; least of all the Global South.
