In a sharp statement at the UNGA’s Third Committee, India asked: when will the UN issue a report on whether Pakistan has followed through on commitments to investigate killings, restore internet access, and ensure fair trials in PoK? The move isn’t just symbolic; it’s strategic. By highlighting what it calls the OHCHR’s “extreme selectivity,” India is indirectly challenging Western nations that often ignore rights abuses in their own regions while targeting countries like India. And here’s the twist: India also reminded the world that J&K and Ladakh are integral parts of India; constitutionally guaranteed rights, no exceptions. This isn’t just about PoK. It’s about setting global norms; and India wants to be seated at the table rewriting them. The timing? Perfect. Just days after the UN criticized protests in Delhi, India flipped the script; and reminded everyone: double standards won’t fly.
