In 2024, we shipped Akash missiles to Armenia and BrahMos to the Philippines. These aren’t gifts; they’re paid, repeat orders. And that’s the real story. While everyone’s chasing AI and space, defence is where India’s quietly building real global muscle. Why? Because export deals = higher margins, no extra R&D. A small company with export orders + maintenance contracts can be stronger than a big one stuck with domestic tenders. And here’s the kicker: by 2047, defence exports could hit ₹2.8 lakh crore. But that’s just the baseline. The real game? Owning the IP. Startups backed by iDEX grants are now racing to build propulsion, reusable systems; tech that could redefine what “Made in India” means on the world stage. The winners won’t be the ones selling parts; they’ll be the ones owning entire categories. So if you’re watching India’s defence rise, don’t look at headline numbers. Look at who’s building the tech, who’s exporting it, and who’s writing the future.
