The US just suspended eight firms (including Wipro and Infosys) from its worker sponsorship programme, calling foreign tech employees “indentured servants.” India called it offensive; loaded with colonial echoes. Meanwhile, a trade deal that’s been stuck since 2025 faces another delay, with the US pressing India to open agriculture and threatening tariffs over Russian oil imports. All this as the US gears up for midterms. For Indian tech workers, this isn’t just policy; it’s upheaval. Families may have to pack up. Careers may stall. And India’s global labour strategy; like recent pacts with Switzerland; now faces a harder road. Yet, defence cooperation continues. Admiral Paparo was just in Delhi. Strange, isn’t it? The world’s biggest democracies can’t agree on trade or visas, but still patrol the Indo-Pacific together. How long can this imbalance last? The real question: is this just election-year noise; or the start of a deeper drift?
