9 athletes, mostly under 20 and unemployed, got rejected. Why? The US Embassy reportedly flagged their age and job status. But here’s the kicker; this tournament is for under-23s. Exactly the group most likely to be students or train full-time. WFI wrote to UWW, and world body chief Nenad Lalovic is now stepping in. USA Wrestling too says they’ll talk to the embassy. Meanwhile, 14 more wrestlers are set to face the same interview tomorrow. The clock’s ticking; the first batch leaves Oct 10. And this isn’t isolated. Just months ago, U20 wrestlers faced visa delays for Slovakia, after another Indian team got flagged for human trafficking. Same pattern. Same pain. Sports bodies now realize; young athletes need special visa lanes. Or they’ll keep losing global opportunities. Let’s hope the system adapts before more dreams get stamped ‘denied’.
