The protest, led by a group called the 'Cockroach Janta Party' (yes, really), accuses election officials of tweaking voter lists to help PM Modi’s BJP ahead of crucial state elections. Over 130 million names were removed from voter rolls; a number so big, even critics within the Election Commission reportedly raised alarms. The government denies everything, but the timing is intense: just months after protests forced an education minister out over exam leaks, and ahead of Uttar Pradesh’s state elections. The CJP, born as online satire, now has serious street power. Police banned the protest, citing ‘late permission’ and past violations; but the protesters say it’s their constitutional right. What’s really at stake? Not just one official’s job; but who controls the gate to India’s democracy. If young voices can turn satire into street power, this might be the beginning of something bigger.
