He’s tackling the elephant in the room: the UN is broken. Not metaphorically. Literally. With 4x the members but the same old power structure, he asked; how’s that supposed to work? India’s long-pending demand for a permanent UNSC seat isn’t just about pride; it’s about survival of a system that’s failing its own purpose. Even more surprising? Jaishankar accused some nations of hiding behind Africa’s name to block reforms; while Africa itself wants change. He didn’t stop there. The global trade system? Also broken. Market rules were written for a world that doesn’t exist anymore; because non-market practices have hijacked the game. And the worst part? The very countries that built the rules are now skipping them; because cheating pays better. If you think global politics doesn’t affect you; think again. A broken UN and trade system means less stability, more unpredictability, and weaker safeguards for everyone. Jaishankar’s message? Fix it; before we’re all stuck playing by rules that no one follows.
