The Economic Times’ new ‘Make in India Product of the Year’ award is turning the spotlight on products where real innovation, design, and engineering are happening right here; not just final assembly. Think of it as a stamp for true ‘India-built’ products, whether it’s a software platform coded in Bengaluru, a smart device engineered in Hyderabad, or an electric scooter designed in Chennai. This isn’t about ticking boxes; it’s about proving that India isn’t just a factory floor, but a brain hub. For job seekers eyeing tech, manufacturing, or product design roles, this shift is huge. Companies investing in local R&D will need skilled engineers, UX designers, product managers, and data analysts; and they’ll likely pay premium salaries to get the right talent. If you’re building a career in tech or manufacturing, start thinking beyond just coding or operations; dive into product thinking, systems design, and innovation frameworks. The next big Indian product might be built by your team; and the market’s already rewarding those who put India at the core, not just the conveyor belt.
