A schoolteacher from Long Island, she bought 128 acres in upstate New York after a family road trip, drawn to its untouched wetlands, woods, and silence. No neighbours, no lawn-mowing demands; just nature. Decades later, at 86, she placed a conservation easement on the land, locking it away from development to protect watersheds feeding into the Chesapeake Bay. What started as a personal escape became a piece of a larger wildlife corridor. Her story is a quiet reminder: sometimes, the best way to care for yourself is to care for the land. And yes, science backs that up; time in nature helps reduce stress, improve sleep, and even purify water. Small choices, big ripples.
