But it’s not just about hiring. Temporary sanitation workers will now earn ₹8,000/month (up from ₹5,000). SC/ST hostel students? Their food allowance doubled; ₹1,800 to ₹3,300. And unmarried women students get ₹50,000 over 3 years under the new ‘Bhagini Nivedita Scheme’. All this, plus 400 new police vehicles, 112 emergency line launch, and 12,000 police appointment letters; all timed for Puja week. Why now? Because in Bengal, festivals aren’t just for prayers; they’re for political promises. And this one’s loud, local, and loaded with impact. Will it change lives? Or just headlines? Only time; and the next recruitment drive; will tell.
