More than half of the bills introduced in the 18th Lok Sabha are now being passed in the same session — a sharp jump from just 33% in the 16th Lok Sabha.

In the recent Monsoon Session, 11 out of 12 bills were cleared; some in under 5 minutes, with no MP even speaking against them. While this may look like efficiency, experts warn it’s cutting short debate, consultation, and scrutiny. Even critical bills like the FCRA Amendment and VBSA Bill; meant to be passed; were left hanging. Meanwhile, 19 sittings saw Lok Sabha work only 15% of scheduled time, with Question Hour barely functioning. The real question: Is fast-tracking laws helping governance; or burying accountability?
