With 90% of our crude imported, every barrel above $110 hits inflation, the rupee, and government finances. And guess what? Inflation’s already at 5.54%; headed for the RBI’s red zone. Traders are now watching the RBI’s policy minutes like a thriller, hoping for clues on rate hikes. Swap markets are betting on 100 bps over the next year. If you’re holding bonds or even thinking of a government job tied to fiscal health; this isn’t just market noise. It’s a signal. Tighter policies could mean fewer public sector hires, delayed salary revisions, or even a shift in budget priorities. The oil shock might seem distant; but its ripple effects? They’re already knocking on your door.
