Thousands of blind and low-vision students are still blocked from equal access to education, jobs, and basic welfare; despite laws, promises, and policies that claim otherwise. Many finish school with honors only to find no government job portals, no braille question papers, and no real support for interviews. It’s not about capability; it’s about systems that forget them. And the heartbreaking part? These students aren’t asking for charity. They’re asking for fairness. A 2025 survey showed 78% of visually impaired graduates in Assam were unemployed; not due to lack of skill, but lack of design. One student told us, “I can solve math faster than most; but I’ve never been allowed to take a competitive exam without someone reading it to me.” When the system is built for eyes, what happens to those who don’t see? The answer is staring us in the face; and it’s time we actually looked.
