That’s all India’s sports ministry cleared for the Asian Para Games; despite having six qualified athletes ready to compete. Prashant Arkal and his teammates spent their own money to meet selection standards, trained in Leh for months, only to find out their names were quietly left off the list. Now, they’re heading to the SAI office to protest. The ministry says only Arshad Shaik met the criteria; fourth place in a field of nine. But here’s the twist: under official qualification rules, India earned slots for four male and three female cyclists based on world rankings. So why pick just one? Athletes feel misled. And this isn’t the first time. Para-shooters are also demanding an inquiry into alleged corruption in selection. If you thought sports was about merit, think again. Sometimes, the rules are clear; but who applies them? And for whom?
