Union Minister Kiren Rijiju shot back at Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, citing past instances where Lok Sabha stayed unprorogued for up to 87 days. No constitutional rule says it must happen within a timeframe. Behind the scenes? A high-stakes battle over delimitation and women’s reservation. The government blames Congress for refusing to set dates for talks, even after multiple invites. Meanwhile, BJP’s push to pass the 106th Constitutional Amendment (for 33% women’s quota) hasn’t slowed; and speculation is heating up that a special session could be called. Kharge called it an “undeclared Emergency.” Rijiju calls it democracy in action. Who’s right? History shows delays aren’t new; but the politics behind this one might change India’s electoral map forever.
