Prakash Rajpurohit, an IAS officer from the 2010 batch, has just been appointed as Deputy Election Commissioner — a move that’s raising eyebrows inside the ECI.

Why? Because his predecessor, Sanjay Kumar, was abruptly repatriated after a quiet but serious internal dispute over who should approve files from the IT department head, Dr. Seema Khanna. Even though she was promoted to a higher rank (Level 15), her files continued to bypass the DEC; sparking concerns from two Election Commissioners. Now, with Rajpurohit stepping in, all eyes are on how work will be reassigned; especially with crucial Assembly polls coming up early next year. This isn’t just a bureaucratic shuffle; it’s about who controls the digital infrastructure behind India’s elections. The real story? Power, hierarchy, and timing; all converging at the heart of the ECI.
