Stephen’s College, one of Delhi’s most prestigious institutions, is now under fire after a DU committee found serious flaws in its faculty hiring. The college lowered the academic cutoff from 55 to 50; a direct violation of DU rules. It also invited 70 candidates per post instead of the mandated 40, inflating the pool artificially. Even more alarming? An external expert refused to sign off on the final scores, accusing the panel of bias. And despite a clear advisory from DU’s Executive Council to halt appointments, the college went ahead anyway; forcing the High Court to step in. This isn’t just a paperwork issue. It’s a credibility crisis for an elite institution that’s supposed to set academic standards, not bend them. Who really got the job? And who decided that? The answers may shake up how we trust elite colleges’ hiring practices. This story is still unfolding; and accountability is now the only thing left on the table.
