Right now, we’re importing expensive Western monitoring gear because local manufacturers can’t get certified. The solution? A simple regulatory reset. Build an Indian certification system; like the UK’s MCERTS; and suddenly, MSMEs, engineers, and technicians across 17 industrial sectors can start building, installing, and servicing emissions tech. This isn’t just about clean air. It’s about creating tens of thousands of jobs in manufacturing, calibration, field installation, and data management; sectors where India already has deep skill. Imagine 1 million jobs in emissions control alone, as NSDC has already planned. The global demand is exploding; Southeast Asia, Africa, Latin America need affordable, rugged, local-friendly climate tech. India can own that space; but only if we stop punishing our own manufacturers for not being European or American. The fix is here. It’s cheap. It’s fast. And it’s hiding in plain sight.
