Union ministers like Chirag Paswan and Ramdas Athawale have outright ruled out CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation, despite opposition protests alleging voter suppression. Athawale claims 13 crore names were removed nationwide; not just opposition voters; but even those of ruling party supporters. Meanwhile, Paswan accused the Congress of fuelling anarchy and diverting attention from serious issues like sexual assault allegations against a JNU professor-Congress MP. The protest in Delhi, though peaceful in intent, was labeled as disruptive by the government. What’s clear: the electoral rolls debate is now a full-blown political battlefield, with both sides digging in. The real test? Whether trust in the democratic process survives these accusations.
