What started as a routine voter list revision has snowballed into a national controversy, with parties like Congress, TMC, and others alleging systematic removal of voters; especially in key states. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge called it an attack on democracy, saying, “We are doing this to protect your vote and your freedom.” Even Rahul Gandhi managed to reach near the Election Commission office before being detained. The ruling BJP dismissed the protests as “anarchy” and accused the opposition of spreading “fake news.” Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is now hearing petitions against the CEC’s actions. With the next general elections just three years away, this isn’t just about voter lists; it’s about trust in the system. And trust, once shaken, is hard to rebuild.
