Wars rage from Gaza to Ukraine, the budget is crumbling, and the world’s most powerful nations are too divided to agree on anything; even how to fix the UN itself. With Antonio Guterres stepping down after 10 years, the pressure’s on his successor to do what no secretary-general has done in decades: rebuild trust in a system designed for a world that no longer exists. Think about it; 193 countries, one outdated structure, and zero permanent seats for Africa, Latin America, or climate-threatened islands. And yet, leaders are asking this new leader to mediate conflicts, fix funding, and somehow make global cooperation cool again. The real test? Can the UN evolve before it’s too late; or will it fade into irrelevance, just as the world needs it most? This isn’t just about diplomacy. It’s about survival.
