With Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, and Ravindra Jadeja stepping onto the field for their state teams, this season has a different vibe. These aren’t just names on a scorecard; they’re India’s Test match heroes, turning up for the red-ball grind before their international duties begin. Why does this matter? Because the BCCI has made it clear: if you’re not on national duty, you’re playing Ranji. No exceptions. It’s not just about keeping skills sharp; it’s about building the next generation. Young players get to train, bat, bowl, and even have chai with their idols. And for fans, it’s a rare chance to see stars sweat it out in local stadiums, not just in packed IPL arenas. Last year, J&K’s Auqib Nabi took 60 wickets; and got called up to the national team. That’s the power of Ranji. It’s where careers are launched, not just maintained. So whether you’re backing Mumbai, Karnataka, or Saurashtra; this season, the Ranji Trophy doesn’t just feel important. It feels alive.
