Over 14 decisions were made unilaterally during the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, despite formal objections from two other Election Commissioners. One petition demands a forensic audit of ECINet and ERONet databases, alleging 13 crore names were deleted across 30 states. Another seeks prosecution of senior officials under Section 32 of the Representation of the People Act. Protests are already heating up; over 1,000 detained in Delhi, FIRs filed; and even the Goa High Court has called the process ‘alien’ to existing laws. If the SC finds merit, this could reshape how India’s voter rolls are managed; and who gets to make those decisions. The stakes? Millions of voters, and the credibility of the next general election.
