It’s about girls missing school because there’s no pad, no toilet, no dignity. In January, the SC ruled: Menstrual hygiene is a fundamental right under Article 21; not charity, not privilege, but a constitutional guarantee. Yet, months later, most states haven’t even bothered to respond. The Court is furious. And honestly? So should we be. Only a handful of states filed compliance reports. No updates on pads, no proof of functional toilets, no curriculum changes. Just silence. And that silence is costing girls their education, their health, their future. This isn’t just about sanitary pads. It’s about whether a girl can sit in class without fear. Whether she drops out because menstruation feels like shame. Whether she’s treated as a citizen; or as an afterthought. The Court has set December 14 as the final deadline. If states fail, chief secretaries may be summoned. Coercive steps are on the table. But here’s what we should really remember: The strongest law means nothing if no one enforces it. Girls aren’t waiting for the next hearing. They’re already in classrooms; or out of them; because someone forgot to care. Let’s not wait for the Court to fix this. Let’s ask: Which states haven’t replied? Who’s failing our girls?
