That’s bold. Why now? Because Bengal currently has just 105 cops per lakh people; the lowest in India. UP has 200. The state’s fixing this with speed: 4,000 already hired, another 9,000 on the way by November. Plus, DA arrears cleared, salaries paid in advance, raincoats and gumboots for field duty. Even a pay commission committee set up. What’s behind this sudden push? Border security. With Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and China nearby, the police aren’t just for crime anymore; they’re frontline guards. And the message to new recruits? ‘Nation first. Fight if needed.’ This isn’t just recruitment. It’s rearmament; quietly, strategically, and fast.
