Why would a government system reject a voter’s attempt to update their address—just because of a technical glitch?

That’s exactly what the Bombay High Court is now questioning. In Goa, a family tried to update their voter registration using Form 8 after moving houses. But because their EPIC cards weren’t showing up in the system, the Election Commission rejected their forms; effectively erasing them from the rolls. The court didn’t buy it. Judges asked: Why not just keep the form pending? Why force people to restart the process with Form 6? A voter trying to stay on the rolls shouldn’t be punished for a software limitation. This isn’t just about one family. Think of millions who move every year. If you reject Form 8 during SIR (Special Intensive Revision), you’re not fixing the system; you’re breaking democracy. The court’s point is simple: If someone shows up to vote, don’t push them away. Even if their form is messy, keep it. Finalize the rolls first. Then sort the details. Because democracy doesn’t run on perfect software. It runs on people. #VoterRights #ElectionCommission #Form8 #Goa #BombayHighCourt #Democracy
